In recently filed court documents, a case filed by Karen Barzman, a former professor of art history at BU, was allowed to proceed after a motion to dismiss was denied. The action accuses SUNY and codefendants Donald Nieman, a former provost and current professor of history, Celia Klin, the current dean of Harpur College, Andrew Baker, the Title IX coordinator, and Nancy Um, a former dean for faculty development and inclusion, of sex-based discrimination and retaliation under Title IX and the New York State Human Rights Law (NYSHRL).

MAR 3, 2023 | By PATRICK HOFF of LAW360
On March 3, 2023, attorneys Jason Solotaroff and Amy Robinson prevailed in their opposition to a motion to dismiss filed by Defendant SUNY Binghamton in a Title IX case alleging sex discrimination. Giskan Solotaroff & Anderson represents former SUNY Binghamton professor, Dr. Karen Barzman, who was subjected to sex discrimination by her department chair. When Dr. Barzman complained to top administrators at SUNY, they refused to transfer her or take meaningful action to address the discrimination and harassment. District Judge McAvoy of the Northern District of New York denied Defendants’ motion to dismiss in its entirety, and the case will now proceed to discovery, see here Decision & Order on MTD 3.3.23.
