An experienced litigator who helps empower individuals and organizations to create systemic change, Raymond Audain is a partner at GS&A. He originally joined the firm in 2012 and returned in 2024 after many years at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. He has a broad practice, with an emphasis on class actions, complex litigation, and civil rights. Raymond also represents individuals and organizations navigating employment disputes and workplace discrimination and harassment.
Prior to rejoining GS&A, Raymond was Senior Counsel at LDF, where he worked on civil rights cases around the country, including a successful challenge to the Trump administration’s rescission of Haiti’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for violating equal protection; a class action that secured $12.5 million for individuals strip-searched while visiting New York City jails; one of the Stop-and-Frisk cases challenging the NYPD’s discriminatory policing practices; and a voting rights lawsuit against South Carolina’s efforts to racially gerrymander congressional districts.
Raymond also helped argue two United States Supreme Court cases and was Counsel of Record on a Supreme Court brief of amici curiae on behalf of 30 civil rights organizations that detailed the importance of class and collective actions for vindicating civil rights in employment, which Justice Ginsburg referenced in her dissent.
Raymond taught the Racial Equity Strategies Clinic at NYU Law School, has presented at numerous legal conferences and universities, and has authored several publications, including Not Yet Forgiven for Being Black: Haiti’s TPS, LDF, and the Protean Struggle for Racial Justice, 52 Loy. L.A. L. Rev. 409 (2019), and the introduction to Patricia Winograd’s Jean v. Nelson Re-imagined, in FEMINIST JUDGMENTS: IMMIGRATION LAW OPINIONS REWRITTEN (Cambridge Univ. Press 2023).
